Planning a birthday party, family gathering or get-together in Rowntree Park? You’re very welcome to enjoy the park with friends and family.
For an informal picnic or gathering, you don’t usually need to book. However, if you’d like to reserve a particular area, bring in an entertainer or activity provider, or have equipment or other organised activities, you’ll need to book with us in advance.
Booking a space
For smaller parties and family gatherings, our railed gardens in the centre of the park are particularly popular. The Friends Garden provides an enclosed grassy space with planting and benches, and other areas may also be available depending on what you’re planning. The woodland story circle is also a good venue for ceryain kinds of parties/gatherings.
A standard party booking is £30. This means we won’t book another group into the same space at the same time and allows you to put up polite signs letting other park users know a party is taking place. Rowntree Park remains a public park, so bookings don’t provide completely exclusive use of an area.
Before you book
If you’re bringing in an entertainer, activity provider or business, please let us know. We’ll need to check their Public Liability Insurance and risk assessment. Gazebos, inflatables and other structures also need to be discussed and agreed with us in advance. BBQs and fires aren’t permitted for private parties.

- your preferred date and times
- approximate number of people
- which area you’d like to use
- what you’re planning
- whether you’ll have an entertainer, activity provider or any additional equipment
We’ll then send you the booking form and take you through the next steps.
Your booking fee also supports the work of Friends of Rowntree Park, the charity whose volunteers help care for and improve areas of the park, including the railed gardens. So while you’re enjoying your celebration, you’re helping us look after the park too.
