Adult Events

We run a range of events for adults. Some events are family-friendly and others are adult-only. Members and non-members are welcome to all our events. There is sometimes a members discount offered when able.

Current adult events and activities:


Crafty Tuesday– a weekly drop-in group for knitters and crocheters, 1.30-3.30 at the cafe. Drop by and say ‘hello’! The group sometimes work on individuals items or on a group project for the park.

Gardening – Range of weekly sessions:
Currently there are sessions on Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Friday mornings. Certain days focus on specific areas. You can register interest in volunteer gardening on our volunteer sign up page here and our gardening lead will be in touch!

Woods for Wellbeing – Mindfulness and natural crafts (one-off events)

Nature and Histiory Walks – free nature walks for adults throughout 2021. You can register interest here to be the first to find out when walks are running. These have been funded by the Micklegate Ward.

Christmas Wreath Making – annual (start of December). This event must be booked in advance (advertised from September).

Events by outside providers

The following events are run in and around the park but not officially linked to The Friends of Rowntree Park. Please contact the individual providers for further details.

Pilates and Yoga in the Park – York Pilates People. There are regular sessions through Spring and Summer.

Tai Chi in the Park – Saturdays (and Wednesdays) – Join Richard, an instructor with over 35 years experience, for his Saturday morning sessions in the park. Tai Chi combines deep breathing and relaxation with flowing movements. It is said to have many health benefits including reducing stress, improving sleep, helps cognition and balance and more! This session is aimed at adults and is ‘pay as you feel’. Takes place outside. Contact Richard.

Rowntree Park tennis club is a private club that manages the tennis courts, and that welcomes new members. The club now offers an online booking system, which lets the public book and pay for the courts.  There are a number of sessions for adults and children that you can book onto.

Orienteering – There is a permanent orienteering course set up in the park by Eborienteers.  Maps can be borrowed from the cafe or you can download the maps for the three routes here

Nordic walkers also use the park as their starting and finishing point on Mondays and Fridays. Find out more here

Gardening in the park is so rewarding. A fantastic group of people, great exercise and standing back and admiring your work!
